Destin-specific considerations

East Pass and structuresCurrents near passes, jetties and structures can differ substantially from open beach conditions. Stay in designated swimming areas.
Changing surfWind and swell can change the beach hazard during the day even when skies remain clear.
Use lifeguarded beachesAsk local beach-safety personnel about current hazards before swimming.
Never fight a rip currentIf caught, conserve energy and move out of the current following the shoreline rather than swimming directly against it.
